Initiating GTC Staking with Your Network

Community staking is most effective when people who know and trust each other stake on one another’s identities. This page provides template messages you can use to reach out to your network and recruit mutual staking participants.

Why Reach Out to Your Network?

Mutual staking strengthens the trust graph for everyone involved. When you and someone you know stake on each other:

• Both of your Unique Humanity Scores increase
• You contribute to a more robust graph of trusted humans
• You help protect the ecosystem against sybil attacks

Email Template

Copy and customize the following email to send to people in your network:

Subject: Let’s strengthen our Passport scores with mutual GTC staking

Hi [Name],

I’ve been using Gitcoin Passport to verify my identity in web3, and I wanted to reach out about a feature called GTC Staking that could benefit both of us.

With community staking, we can stake GTC tokens on each other’s identities as a way of vouching for one another. This increases both of our Unique Humanity Scores, which is useful for participating in Gitcoin Grants Rounds, DAO governance, airdrops, and other web3 activities that require sybil resistance.

Here’s how it works:

1. Go to the Passport App at https://app.passport.xyz 
2. Connect your wallet and navigate to the Staking section
3. Select Community Staking and enter my wallet address: [YOUR WALLET ADDRESS]
4. Choose the amount of GTC you’d like to stake

Once you’ve staked on my identity, I’ll stake on yours in return. If you need GTC tokens, you can get them on Uniswap, Coinbase, or other exchanges.

Tips for Successful Outreach

• Start with people you know well — Friends, colleagues, and community members who know you personally are the best candidates
• Explain the mutual benefit — Both parties gain a higher Unique Humanity Score
• Offer to help — Some people may be new to web3 and appreciate a walkthrough
• Be transparent about slashing risk — Let people know that staked tokens can be slashed if either party violates network integrity rules
• Follow through — When someone stakes on you, promptly return the favor by staking on their identity
